Robert Tagge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - South Jordan on Mar. 19, 2026.
Robert Herman "Bob" Tagge

September 6, 1937 – March 16, 2026

Robert Herman "Bob" Tagge, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at the age of 88.

He was born on September 6, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah. At just three months of age, he was adopted from St. Ann's Orphanage by Herman Tagge (1896–1972) and Zula Smith Tagge (1896–1987), who lovingly raised him.

He married Billie Joyce Sorensen, and together they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Billie, his seven children: Thayne Tagge (Cari), Joyce Andrus (Bret), Lyle Tagge (Lisa), Bryan Tagge (Stephanie), Paul Tagge (Jennifer), John Tagge (Kathryn), and Ken Tagge; as well as 49 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Bob spent his career continuing a family legacy as owner of Tagge's Motor and Trailer, a business started by his father and located in downtown Salt Lake City, visible from the freeway at 1300 South. He took great pride in his work and in the many relationships he built over the years. After retiring, he continued working at Home Depot, where he enjoyed staying busy and interacting with others.

Bob attended Weber College in Ogden, Utah. He was a devoted member of the Church and, alongside Billie, fulfilled an inner-city mission. He also served faithfully as a Webelos leader for 18 years, blessing the lives of countless young men.

He was a friend to many and had a remarkable gift for connecting with others, always speaking kindly and never ill of anyone. His family was his greatest treasure. He created lasting memories by teaching his children to love the outdoors-boating at Lake Powell and Bear Lake, and traveling together in the family Ute-Liner motorhome.

Bob could fix anything and was often called upon by family, friends, and neighbors for help with repairs. He was always willing to serve and give of his time. He also enjoyed working with his family to create wood crafts that were sold at Swiss Days.

He had a variety of hobbies throughout his life, including rocket shoots, leather work, and working on his prized dune buggy.

Bob enjoyed simple pleasures in life, especially Chinese food, going to the movies, and eating at Ogie's Cafe, a longtime local favorite known for its friendly atmosphere and hearty meals.

He was known for his independence and sense of humor, often cooking for himself at home-sometimes setting off the kitchen smoke alarm in the process. At times, he embraced health kicks, eating wheat sprouts and often saying, "the whiter the bread, the sooner you're dead."

In his later years, he suffered from dementia but maintained a positive outlook and a cheerful spirit that continued to bless those around him. He became a favorite of the nurses and staff at Holladay Healthcare Center, where he deeply appreciated the care he received over the past four years.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Holladay Healthcare Center for their compassionate care and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Michael Tagge (1979–2018), who passed away on April 12, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapels (1007 South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah) on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing prior from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Lawn (2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah)
