Don Robertson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - South Jordan on Mar. 13, 2026.
Don Reed Robertson, age 79, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Meadow Peak Assisted Living Center in Taylorsville, Utah.

Don was born on September 9, 1946, in Moroni, Utah, to Ernest Jefferson Robertson and Rhoda Davis Robertson. He spent his early years growing up in Fountain Green, Utah, attending junior high in Moroni where he formed many lifelong friendships. His family later moved to Kearns, Utah, where he attended Granger High School and graduated in 1964.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 and again from 1972 to 1976. During his active duty, he was stationed at Ellsworth and Hamilton Air Force Bases and later at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. In 1976, Don returned to Hill Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic supervisor, where his dedication, ingenuity, and faithful service were evident. He retired in 2003.

On May 1, 1976, Don married Shirley Ann Ericksen. Together they built a life filled with family, friends, and many beloved pets. They shared a passion for horses, riding with the 7-11 Club for over 20 years and winning numerous trophies and belt buckles. Their dream home allowed them to raise and train horses and gave their dogs plenty of space to play and run. Their animals were truly part of the family.

Don was a hard worker both on the job and at home. Despite the daily commute from South Jordan to Hill Air Force Base, he balanced it all and always found time to enjoy the things he loved. Tinkering in the barn, maintaining the pasture, and caring for his horses were among his favorite pastimes.

Many of Don's fondest memories were spent in the mountains camping, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling with friends. He enjoyed sports, especially golfing with his best friends, and often spoke of his hope to return to the course one day. He enjoyed his neighbors and treasured quiet moments at home, especially his regular Monday morning visits with his brother Jeff.

He is survived by his brother, Jeff (Pat) Robertson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; his sisters, Karen (John) Jones and Betty (Larry) Devine; and his parents.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Don's caregivers at Meadow Peak Assisted Living Center and to Canyon Home Health and Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care.
