Brian Ray Moen, 68, of
South Jordan, UT passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 12, 2026.
Brian was born on February 20, 1958, in
Moorhead, MN to Lester and Cora Moen of
Fargo, ND. An only child, Brian was raised in Fargo where he attended Fargo Public Schools and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1977.
After high school, Brian attended North Dakota State School of Science and earned a degree in auto body repair. He worked in the auto body and parts industry in the Fargo area before later earning his CDL and beginning a career as a truck driver.
In March 1987, Brian placed an ad in the Person-to-Person column of the Fargo Forum and met the love of his life, Sue (Susan) Bettenhausen. They were married on October 17, 1987. In 1988, Brian proudly adopted Sue's daughter Penny, beginning the family he always wanted. Their daughter, Krista, and son, Jeremy, were born in the following years while the family was living in the Fargo area.
In 1990, the family moved to Hunter, North Dakota, where they lived for several years before Brian accepted work hauling asphalt for road construction in Utah. During that time the family spent six weeks living in a pop-up camper at the KOA campground in Wendover and quickly fell in love with the mountains and the Salt Lake Valley. In 1996, they made Utah their permanent home.
Brian later worked as a dedicated route driver for Ryder Logistics until 2002, when he underwent brainstem surgery at the University of Utah to remove a cavernous hemangioma. Due to lasting effects from the surgery, he was unable to return to work.
Brian stayed active with hobbies and continued learning throughout his life, eventually earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Above all, he loved spending time with Sue, his children, and especially his grandchildren. Brian was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Brian is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Sue (Susan) Moen; his children: Penny Scow, Krista (Zachary) Smith, both of West Jordan, and Jeremy Moen of
South Jordan, Utah. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Millie and Theron Scow and Paxton and Cora Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Cora Moen; his son-in-law Brandon Scow; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
LOVE YOU GOOD NIGHT!
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held on April 18, 2026, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sandy, UT at 4:30 pm.
The family wishes to thank Inspiration Hospice, especially Philomena and Juan, for their wonderful support and kindness in providing care for Brian.
