Matthew Moen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 23, 2026.
Matthew Denver Moen of Minneapolis, MN, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Granite Falls, MN, on February 24, 1978, Matt was the son of Byron and Gail Moen, who instilled in him the values of faith, integrity, and perseverance. Matt was known for his quick wit, sharp intelligence, bold spirit, and natural ability to connect with others.

Matt received his MBA at the University of St. Thomas. He then went on to build a successful career in sales management. He traveled the world to meet with clients, adventurously embracing local cuisines along the way. He loved problem-solving and considered his greatest professional achievement to be the people he brought together and the privilege of watching them succeed.

While Matt truly enjoyed his work, there wasn't a moment he wasn't also thinking about fishing. He developed a love for fishing at a young age, often waking up early to head to the dock and make the first cast of the day. As an adult, family vacation destinations were based on the quality of local fishing. Time on the water was more than a hobby; it provided peace, laughter with friends, and bragging rights.

Family was of the utmost importance to Matt, from being a caring son to the responsibility of being the oldest brother. He married the love of his life, Kamie, together for twenty-five years and married nearly twenty. Their love was defined by partnership and unwavering devotion. In both the light and weight of life, they chose one another, enduring its hardest trials with quiet strength and deep love.

Matt's greatest joy was becoming a father to Caroline. He was a proud girl dad, but also loved that she was an avid sports fan, no matter the season or sport, just like himself. He cherished being Caroline's softball coach and watching her discover other talents, from singing to cheer. He constantly encouraged her to believe in herself and to know that anything was possible.

He is survived by his parents, Byron and Gail; his beloved wife, Kamie, and his daughter, Caroline; his brothers, Jason (Lisa, Keegan, and Kady) and Shawn (Maria and Liam); his mother-in-law, Candy; and many extended family members and dear friends who will deeply miss his energy and humor. He has been joyfully reunited in Heaven with his grandparents (Ralph "Shorty" and Marjorie Tentinger, Leona and Ceylon Moen), father-in-law, Greg, and his precious niece, Alexa.

Matt found strength and comfort in his faith and trusted wholeheartedly in God's plan. His love, laughter, and unwavering devotion will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew him.

A visitation will be held March 15th at 1:00 p.m. at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church, followed by a service at 2:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to continue the celebration of Matt's life at The Lynhall from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., where refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres will be served.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Minnesota Colorectal Cancer Research Foundation in honor of Matt.
