MARGARET S. MAGARIAN

Margaret S. Magarian was born in Fresno on April 11, 1912, and passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2006. Margaret was a vivacious woman who was very active in her community. Her love, acceptance and openness are a legacy to those who knew her. She graduated from Madison Elementary and Central Union High Schools. During those years, she was active in sports and music. A lifelong member of Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church, Margaret engaged in family and church activities. It was through these social events that she met her husband, Sooren Magarian. They were married for 67 years until Sooren's death in 2000. In this marriage, Sooren and Margaret were proud to have their first-born son, Marvin. Three and a half years later they were blessed with twins, Jimmy and Judi. Sooren and Margaret raised their children on the family farm and those who visited were welcomed with love and generosity. Being a leader in her community, Margaret served as PTA president in her children's schools, taught 4-H cooking and sewing classes, and was a Sunday school superintendent. Her interests included cooking, sewing, gardening, playing Bridge and entertaining family and friends. Margaret loved music and sang in the church choir. Outside the home, Margaret worked at Luftenburg's and Gottschalks. Margaret was a wonderful wife to Sooren, mother to Marvin, Jimmy and Judi and grandmother to Megan. All knew her loving heart and radiant smile. Margaret is pre-deceased by her husband, Sooren Magarian; her son, Dr. James Magarian; and her three brothers, Haig Krikorian, Richard Kirk and Peter Krikorian. Survivors include her son, Marvin Magarian; daughter, Judi Magarian-Gold and her husband Bernard; granddaughter, Megan Mickel; and stepgrandchildren, Jeff and Rachelle Gold. Survivors also include her sisters-in-law, Mary Malkasian, Rose Krikorian and Anoush Krikorian. A Daughters of Vartan Service will be held at the Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church on Friday, February 3, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow.
