I met Martin through his partner, who is my first cousin, Tim. From the beginning, I knew Martin was a special person, and I am happy to know he shared his life with my cousin. I remember Martin as a most kind and gentle spirit, and I will never forget our fun visits at the lake, or Martin's delicious grilled hamburgers. I will greatly miss this remarkable individual who knew how to share his laughter and wonderful stories.

Dear Timothy,
I received your letter today telling me about the past few months and Martin's death. I am so sorry to hear this news. My sympathy and prayers to you. I met you both in 1981 and enjoyed many fine nights cooking out and swimming in the pool, good conversation and laughs. We had a great group of fun people at the apartments in those days. Martin was very lucky to have such a caring person in his life. I want you to know I will be in touch with you. Take care Timothy.
Sincerely,
Michael England

We met our friends, Martin & Tim, at little Beach on Maui in 2004. We have since kept in touch and shared a special friendship with them.
Unfortunately, we recently shared a common bond, as Rick is a 3 time brain cancer survivor and was Martin's hero. We were able to get to Fresno to visit with Martin & Tim in late April on our way back to Canada.
We both feel so fortunate to have had the pleasure of meeting and knowing, however briefly, two such wonderful people as Martin & Tim.
We have witnessed Tim's faith and strength in these devastating circumstances and know that he will carry on through life with the wonderful memory of the love that they were so privledged to have shared for 26 years.
We will always think of Martin & our prayers will always be with you Tim.

Martin's kind soul immediately put anyone at ease. Though I'd only known Martin for about five years, I felt as if we'd been friends for many, many years. I will remember the playfulness and sweetness that Martin exuded when I was in his presence. Timmy, I can't imagine the loss you feel. Remember, though, you have many friends to call on if you need anything.

I jumped around in the pool with Martin for over 10 years. We met in the deep end where the laughs were big and the conversations meaningful. His insight about people and what makes us tick were a welcome addition to my day. I looked forward to his sage words and compassionate tales. I enjoyed him an hour a day and miss him. Imagining 26 years with that laugh and companionship is something to savor! I hope you'll keep in touch Tim.

I met Marty in 1963 at one of the local watering holes in Fresno! We became friends because we both like to laugh. Our paths never crossed early on in Fresno but he later attended Christmas Celebrations at our home. The first time he attended with his partner, Tim, I didn"t recognize him until he laughed. Then I knew who he was and we caught up the many lost years finding that we both worked in hospitals and had many friends in common. Bye, Marty. Rest well, friend. Gordon

I knew Martin for very little time but he had the kind of old soul that made him your instant old friend. I looked forward to seeing him every morning when I was his driver. Tim you are truly what we all want in a partner, kind, loving, caring and helpful. I have never seen two people who were more connected in love. Martin will be surely missed. If we were able to become great friends in such a short time, I know there are many people who will be very sad to hear this news. Tim you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I will stop by soon to get some of those wonderful flowers you offered me as a reminder of you and Martin and the time I got to see true love at its best! Keep that beautiful smile in this hard time. We loved/love Martin more than you could know- Both Timmy and Martin were best buddies that we didn't get to know soon enough- Martin was such a pensive person with such a great sense of deep humor- even tho he was 71- his spirit and attitude was of a 21 year old- I can still see him jumping off the top of the house boat last summer with the scream and zest of a little boy- I loved talking w/ him and all the fun times we had as a 4 some- Timmy and Martin- you BOTH are truly loved and we will be a sadder group w/out our Martin!

I knew Martin when I worked at the VA Hospital in Fresno. I also knew we were related in some way, but wasn't sure how. Now, I know. Third cousins, it looks like. It's probably been like 30 years, but I remember Martin being quick with a smile and most genuine. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. God be with him, and with you Tim.

There will be a huge void without Martin's physical presence, but because of the good man he was, his spirit will always be with us. He was a great human being and a good friend to both of us.

Martin was my second cousin. I remember he and my brother, John Berecochea, were very close all during high school and kept in touch thru the years.
Tim, May God's love guide you during this time of sorrow, and may loving memories sustain you during this difficult time.

Martin is a second cousin. I remember meeting him when I was visiting family in Fresno as a child in the 50’s. Living in the Los Angeles area I did not get to know him well, but heard many stories of him (all good). Along with my wife Katherine, we send our condolences to Tim.
