Marvin Moore Obituary

Marvin Allen Moore

May 30, 1944 - May 22, 2025

Fresno, California - Known professionally as Marv Allen, Moore was a prominent voice in Fresno radio for nearly six decades. After graduating high school, he attended the William B. Ogden Radio Operational Engineering School in Burbank, California, earning the FCC First Class Radio Telephone License. His broadcasting career began at KYUM in Yuma, Arizona, where he worked as an announcer and engineer before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as a radio communication specialist.

Following military service, Moore returned to Fresno and joined KARM radio. He later founded Studio B Productions, a recording business that became well known for its advertising services and award-winning work. Moore's distinctive voice led to a collaboration with Logos Bible Software, resulting in a CD recording of the New Testament.

In 2005, Moore joined Valley Public Radio (KVPR), where he became a familiar presence as the local host of NPR's "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered." His career in broadcasting continued until just days before his passing from complications related to bone marrow cancer.

In earlier years, Moore was an avid scuba diver, skydiver, boater, and pilot. A licensed flight instructor, he built and flew ultra-light aircraft and found great joy in both work and recreation.

Moore is survived by his spouse, Vickie Pearson-Moore; his son, Michael Moore of Fresno; his brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Carol Moore of Elk Grove; four grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews with their families.

Marv was a reassuring voice in the morning that all was well with the world.....a voice of kindness and hope in a sometimes tumultuous world. May he rest in peace and kindness and community.

My condolences to the Allen family. I first met Marv on a Fresno State MCJ field trip to his office in the early 1990's. Later, we served on the FAF board together for many years, and we had mutual clients when I was at KJWL radio. He was a mentor to many, a calm voice of reason, a creative genius, and had a great sense of humor.

Though miles and even oceans separated us through the years, Marv was always what a big brother should be--loving, kind, protective, supportive. I probably would not have taken up snow skiing but for Marv and our winter journeys to Badger Pass. I almost certainly wouldn't have become an avid water skier but for Marv, his boat, and summer days at Lake Millerton. Marv taught me that work and play each have their purpose, and that both require appropriate balance and intentionality. Marv modeled modesty, perseverance, and strength. For all of this, and more, what else could a brother ask.

The first thing i liked about Marv was his voice and I always enjoyed to hear the weather report along with is metaphors. My wife and I would drive to work in the morning while Marv was giving his weather report. His Metaphors would fill the space as I would burst out laughing. My wife would always ask why I was laughing as simply stated HES A FUNNY AND GREAT RADIO HOST. He will greatly be missed in our home,

His voice is what I knew of Marc. He started my days with a smile. That voice often felt like a cozy hug. He will be missed.

Marv was simply the best. A man of his word. A kind man with a voice that was friendly, authoritative and respectful of the copy he was given, or wrote himself. I spent hundreds of production hours with him, and every single time he asked for one more take because he thought he could do it better. He was right - it was always better. An integral part of the advertising community, it´s no wonder he was awarded a lifetime membership in the Fresno Advertising Federation. He worked hard, and was always modest about his accomplishments. He never took singular credit for his work. It bears repeating: Marv was simply the best.

All of us have had events in our lives which were almost impossible to grasp. And for me the passing of gentle giant Marv pushes all of the others to the back of the line. It will take a long time to get over this. As a fellow KVPR announcer with the privilege of working with him for so many years, I listened to him and mentally took notes. And Marv, thank you for your perpetual smile.

Marv has been part of my life for many years and I will miss hearing his kind, friendly voice nearly every day on KVPR. I will donate to FM89 in his memory and know it will be for the very best cause.

I was Marv's fellow broadcasting mate at KVPR for 10 years. I will fondly remember that jolly hello he always had for me when I relieved him in the afternoon. And on the rare occassion that he needed me to fill in for him, I was all too happy. Marv was a true professional and will be greatly missed.

We were lucky to know him and very happy to have him as a part of the family. He was such a good, kind man and the best companion to my dear sister Vickie. Our love to you Vic and Mike and all who lost him

Marv was one of the kindest people I've ever known. He was passionate about so many things and so many causes. Incredibly talented and gifted, with one of the greatest "radio voices" ever. His love and devotion to my dear sister was such an inspiration and he will be SO dearly missed. Rest in peace, dear brother in-law, until we meet again...
