Preston Dale Hamada, age 61, was born on December 18, 1953, and passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014. He was the eldest of three children born to Iyoko "Yonki" and Yukio Hamada. Preston was born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Kingsburg, CA. He attended Clay Joint Elementary School and Kingsburg High School, where he excelled in basketball and track. He continued his education at Reedley College and ultimately received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts from California State University, Fresno.
Like his mother, Preston had a great appreciation for all forms of art. His many water color paintings are a treasure. His keen sense of design was evident in his passion for photography, having had a one man show at the Reedley Fiesta. He was extremely talented.
In his younger days, Preston enjoyed cycling. He competed in the prestigious 100 mile Climb to Kaiser and was the epitome of fitness. His love for snow skiing is a legacy that he leaves with his children. It is often said that he taught them to ski before they could walk!
Preston made many wonderful friends while selling produce at the Farmer's Markets, specifically Monterey, Orinda, and Moraga. He was patient, treated people with kindness and respect, and in turn, was treated the same. He was humble, modest, and generous.
Preston had a real zest for adventure. He was greatly loved and his warm smile and gentle presence will be sorely missed.
Preston was preceded in death by his mother, Iyoko "Yonki" Hamada.
He is survived by his father, Yukio Hamada; his wife Gail; children, Cooper and Remy; brother, Clifford and his wife Kathy; sister, Donna Hamada and her husband Jon Cochran; and his nieces and nephews, who adored him, Megan Cochran, Julie, Andrew, and Jason Hamada, all of Kingsburg, CA.
At Preston's request, there will be a private Service.

So sorry to hear about your Dad's passing.I first met your Dad in 1968 at a basketball tournament. While I was a bench warmer for Alta. He was the star for Clay. When we were growing up all the Buddhist churches had basketball teams. We were always opponents. I played for Reedley and your Dad for Kingsburg. In the Spring of 1973 a second basketball league was formed. I asked your Dad to join my team and he accepted. We won the championship and I got to finally play with your Dad.
Your Dad was always gracious and humble man. I regret not keeping in touch with him and I will miss him dearly.

I was so sorry to hear of Preston's passing today. Hugs to you all. Remington and Cooper, I hope that we see you again skiing the bumps under chair two. It was always a treat to see you all coming down the run together. All so athletic yet graceful, a beautiful sight. I made many runs under chair two with you all on my mind today. I will miss Preston and am so sorry for your loss. Irene Barba
