RANDY SPEARS Obituary

Randy Allen Spears unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on October 27, 2017. Born in Torrance, CA, on July 8, 1957, to Garland and Ila June Spears, he was the fourth child in a family that would eventually include another little sister for a total of two boys and three girls. The family would later move to Fresno, CA, where Randy spent most of his childhood. Although as a young adult, he briefly lived in Oregon, Idaho, and Arizona, Fresno would be his home. He met his future wife of 31 years, Sherry, when she was 14, and he 16, and they would marry 12 years later. Their children, Shane "Scurvy" Spears, and Samantha Spears, were the light and pride of his life. Randy was artistic and besides painting, enjoyed wood working and playing his acoustic guitar. He spent many nights playing music and singing with friends and his wife in his "man cave" garage. He enjoyed his extensive knife collection and also loved to fish, and as a child he used to ride his bike to Roeding Park to fish in the ponds. People remembered Randy for his deep baritone voice, asking if he ever sought a career in radio. He was incapable of not speaking his mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not, and although he had a gruff exterior, he was a gentle soul. Besides his wife, Sherry Spears, and his two children, he leaves behind his mother, June Spears, and sister, Peggy Stamper, both of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Remembrances may be made to his children's favorite charities, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF); or the Animal Compassion Team (ACT).

Randy,
You were and always will be one of our favorite people! Knowing you are there makes Heaven an appealing place one day!
Meanwhile, you just keep knocking on your wife's window so she knows you are okay - I think it's hilarious you have come back as Woody - you always did have a wicked wit!
You have been in my life for 44 years now, and throughout that time, I took comfort in knowing that you loved and watched out for our girl. You were one of the funniest and most intelligent people I have had the pleasure of knowing. You were so loved by so many, and you are so very missed, my friend.
I think one of the most telling things about you as a human being, is that dogs loved you, just as you loved dogs.
We will always think of you when we go to Piedra to go fishing - once when we went there you pointed out the beauty of the wildflowers, and you always had an interesting anecdote about life to share - all the more memorable because it was told in your deep gravely voice.
Sher is going to think of you every time she goes to the farmer's market, every time she hears music playing, a guitar strum, or walks into your "man cave" to look at all of your eclectic treasures and curiosities.
I'll never forget once when Tony and I flew in from Tennessee, and you picked us up from the airport ~ Sher was still at work ~ and you had a gorgeous hand-seasoned pork loin roast cooking with onions and potatoes and carrots and celery - it was a masterpiece of culinary presentation and deliciousness.
You never ceased to amaze and delight, a man of many facets, and a true musician.
Tony loved and enjoyed you so much, even though he only met you over Christmas in 1997 - a mere 20 years ago now. We were so looking forward to you coming back to hang out with us soon. We can't believe you are gone.
I wish you were still around, and my heart aches for our beloved girl Sherry, and Shane and Sammy (did I mention you were Mr. Mom?), and all your family and the many friends who love you, but we can hear you singing in the wire.
xoxoxo forever
