Richard Ramage Obituary

On July 11, 2020, Richard Paul Ramage passed away at age 75. "Dick" was an amazing soul that touched countless lives during his life. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and great-uncle to his devoted family. He was incredibly dedicated to his career at Clovis High School as a teacher and the coach of the girl's tennis team, which spanned four decades. "Coach Ramage's" prolific career is evidenced by a home filled with pictures and awards garnered during a lifetime of helping young women cultivate not only their athletic abilities, but also their understanding of teamwork, sportsmanship, and mutual respect. As a testament to this, and his many years of service, the tennis courts at Clovis High School were dedicated in his honor upon his retirement. Dick spent his summers at Alta Sierra Boys and Girls Camp (formerly known as Bob Mathias Camp) as the camp director. Affectionately referred to as "Pinky" by his camp friends, he was blessed to cultivate a second family with the campers and fellow staff. He was known for his leadership, kindness, and guidance. Dick was a devoted Christian. His faith was shown through his service to his church, Christian leadership programs and the dozens of charities he supported over the course of his life. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Ramage. He is survived by his loving brother, Tom, his sister-in-law, Sandi and his three nieces Tami, Susan and Holly. Dick was also a wonderful grand-uncle to Gabriel, Charlie and Gracie. To his family he was caring, generous, and devoted. Dick had a great sense of humor and brought great joy to those around him. Truly, Dick's life was blessed by his wonderful friends and family and there is no doubt that we are better for having him in our lives. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Surely, his parting words to us would have been "see you later alligator." And we would respond, "after a while crocodile..." Due to current health concerns, a memorial service honoring Dick will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dick's honor to Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. My deepest sympathy to the family! He was my favorite teacher and friend! I didn't have him as a teach but I was teachers aide for him through high school in the early 70s. He was very special to me!

Dick Ramage, forever `Pinky´ to me, enriched the lives of thousands of people, mostly the young ones. I knew him through his summer world, a real one that spanned decades, with the Bob Mathias Sierra Boys And Girls Camps. His gift was joy and optimism that he shared with all of us. That´s not easy, as we know, to sustain such a tone, to be the model of care and kindness even on a bad day. But such was our Pinky, who we all should remember now with even more appreciation. All is well. Safely rest. God is nigh.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Loved him as my PE coach and after graduating he lived in Bonnadelli Track next door to my Aunt and Uncle and would see him often!

Not only was Dick my tennis coach and teacher, he was also my next door neighbor! Great time playing tennis with him, but also catching up with him each time I came home to visit my parents over the years, and him asking about my wife and children. I'll miss him!

Dick was a "working" Christian in every way. He was very generous with his resources and his time, always asking "what can I do to help", and following thru on voluntary services. We have truly missed him at his and our Sierra Vista Church these last few years and will continued to miss him. May he rest in peace.

I played tennis for Coach Lee and Coach Bradley at Buchanan High, 1998-2001. Couldnt have asked for a better coaching opponent. Rest In Peace, Coach Ramage.

Mr. Ramage was a teacher and a coach of mine when I was a student at the new Clovis High School Campus back in the early 70's. He was a great man that cared deeply about his students and the athletes that he taught and coached. He was a good man that taught me how to compete and bring the best out of myself. But, foremost he cared about his students and players. I have fond memories of him and the dignity he had for those around him and how much he care about you as a person. We need more people like him. He will deeply be missed.

I was saddened to read of the passing of Mr. Dick Ramage. During my Junior year at CHS back in 1989 he was my economics teacher. He introduced me to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club. They had sponsored a Track & Field conference (and meet) in L.A. for a handful of us to attend a few weeks after the end of the school year. This conference for ever changed my life. I will always be grateful to Mr. Ramage for that opportunity. Gods speed- Dan Ortenzio
