Ronald Houston Obituary

RONALD H. HOUSTON

On October 20, 2005, after a brief but courageous battle, our Lord called Ron to 'go marchin in' with His All Saints' Band. A California native, Ron was raised in Visalia and graduated from Fresno State College where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he was employed by the State of California for 36 years. Ron served as a Deacon and an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Fresno. After retiring, Ron was the past president and active member of the Fresno Dixieland Society and a board member of the Sunnyside Property Owners Association. Ron is survived by Billie Jane, his wife of 45 years; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Taylor; grandson, Alexander Verrone; and sister, Mary Ann Schroeter. Visitation will be held at Yost & Webb Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 25, 2005, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1540 'M' St., Fresno, CA 93721, or the donor's favorite charity. Dear Billie Jane, Alexander, Jennifer and Steve and family:

While we find comfort in knowing that Ron is now at home with the Father, I find myself profoundly saddened to lose a person that I have known since I was 3-years-old.

So many, many happy memories...Fourth of July celebrations with lots of firecrackers and homemade ice cream,

Santa Cruz, the Portland, OR visit, love of Dixieland Jazz and many, many family occasions over nearly 40 years.

Ron, I will miss you greatly.

Our love and prayers,

Chris, Shirley & Connor Finks

To the family of Ron Houston,

I was very saddened to hear of Ron's passing. In 1969, Ron interviewed a young, inexperienced girl,,took a chance and hired her. That person was me. I worked for him and with him in many capacities, and through the years he continued to "mentor" me,providing advice when asked. He would always extend a helping hand whenever he was called upon. I know he is in God's embrace, and I will miss him! God bless you all.

I first met Ron many (many) years ago when I visited my uncle, Wriley Shelton, in Fresno. He was a favorite of Wriley's and I heard many stories about him. My deepest sympathy to the family. Warmest aloha, Craig

To the family of Ron,

The news of Ron's homegoing was very difficult for all who worked with at EDD. Ron was the best Manager in my opinion that EDD hired. He was so kind and compassionate with his staff. Never appeared to have favorites. I asked that God bless the whole family. Mrs. Houston(Billie)look to the hills and the Lord will be there to carry you(FOOTSPRINTS). Ron's grandson was a favorite conversation piece when my husband, my self and Ron came in contact with each other. I say to you, we all loved Ron, but God loved him best. God bless and keep you in His loving arms.
