STEPHEN FIELDS Obituary

Stephen Arthur Fields passed away after a brief battle with cancer, on Thursday, November 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Steve was born in Fresno, CA on July 6, 1948, to Joe and Kathryn Fields, and lived here until 1966, when he left to attend college at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. He lived several years in Fremont, CA, working for Valley Industrial Service when he met his wife Susan. They married on June 21, 1976, and have one loving son, Ryan Paige Fields, of Reno, NV. Steve and Susan moved several times between Fremont and Fresno, until 1984, when he acquired Tent City Canvas House, which he sold just a few years ago to pursue his passions of golf and traveling, and according to his golfing buddies, cheating at liars dice. His requirement for traveling somewhere, was if he hadn't been there, he wanted to go. His favorite trips included India, Ireland, Africa, Thailand, and Scotland, and sailing across the international date line. Steve had a short bucket list, both of which he completed, playing golf in Scotland and hiking with the gorillas in Uganda. His other passions were theatre, coaching little league, which he did for six years, and leading as Chief for local Indian Guides. He was Big Bear, and Ryan was Little Bear. He was an avid hiker, and some favorite hikes included climbing Half Dome several times, Mt. Whitney, and Machu Picchu. He was a faithful San Francisco 49er fan, with season tickets since 1980. Steve was an excellent cook, and found great enjoyment in creating wonderful dishes for his family and friends. Stephen was a past President of the Woodward Park Rotary, a Fort Washington Country Club Board Member, and a proud Fort Washington Club Champion. To everyone's delight, Stephen maintained his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit throughout his illness. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at both Stanford Medical Center, and St. Agnes Medical Center for their loving care of Stephen. The family is especially grateful for the special attention given by Joe at Stanford, and Francisco at St. Agnes. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Kathryn Fields. He is survived by his wife Susan; his son, Ryan Fields; his unborn grandchild "Peanut"; and his brother, Alan Fields. There will be a Celebration of Life at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club, 10272 N. Millbrook, Fresno, CA 93730, on Monday, November 13, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The First Tee of Fresno; or your local Boys and Girls Club.

Steve was a Special Soul for sure.

We had a group that went on many road trips with many stories to follow. Fields, Forbes, Caves, Sealey, Bruce, Ken, John, and others I am forgetting.

Many nights throughout the early years we stayed late, I mean really late, and rolled dice and drained the bar during the Sealey days and there after. Sealey use to refer to Steve as the "Mensa Man" who always had the answer to prove his statement as fact.

It won't be the same for me golfing at the Fort as Steve was always there to banter with.

Good bad and the ugly(don't recall any ugly) days, and don't really recall any bad days either, were ones I was fortunate to be a part of and cherish.

Sorry to see you go "Too Tall" my friend!
