Steve Grote Obituary

Steve was called home on January 22, 2010, while vacationing in Honolulu, Hawaii. Steve was born on June 13, 1949, in Selma, Ca. Steve spent most his life in Clovis. Steve was one of the most prominent paving contractors known throughout the San Joaquin Valley, 40 years of service. Well known for his extreme "Grote-isms" as some would say. Steve was a perfectionist when it came to his work, if the job wasn't being done to his standards, everyone heard about it! He was a legend in his field, and one of the "last of the best"! Steve thoroughly enjoyed taking his boat to the Delta, hanging with his boat club, weekends at Millerton Lake with his Family, and friends. His all time favorite thing to do was simply lounging around with his best friend & soulmate, his queen, and love of his life, Marcie Lynn. Thank you Steve Grote, for paving the road to heaven. We are going to miss you my Friend, until we meet again. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict A. Grote and Lucille Stertz; and his daughter Lyndy Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife Marcie Lynn Grote; brother Kenny Grote; his children Sheri Matthews Grote, Steven A. Grote, Susan M. Grote, Aaron Bump-Grote, Nikki Lee Grote, Blake Grote, Step-son Chase Marcelli-Avila; 15 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his Father-in-law, Albert J. Marcelli; Sister-in-law, Beverly Barnard; and Brother-in-law, David C. Bower and his wife Judy Bower; along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Boice Funeral Home in Clovis, February 2, 2010, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Clovis Hills Community Church, 10590 N. Willow Ave., on February 3, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. BOICE FUNERAL 308 Pollasky Ave Clovis,Ca.(559)299-4372

On behalf of the Steve Grote Family, I would like to Thank all those who have written on Steve's Guest Book. I would also like to thank those who called, texted, sent cards, flowers, food and gifts. He definately touched so many lives. The UNBELIEVABLE, outpour of messages and words of support, I have received is a testament to that. He was the best Husband, Father and Friend, that you could ever imagine and I know he is going to be missed so much by all who new him. A special Thanks to Miranda Trucking and the entire Miranda Family. The monetary donations were very much appreciated! Your Family made it possible to give Steve the send off he so much deserved. (Thanks Donnie and Renee, for the Memorial video, Mike thank you for driving the low bed and making Steve's last ride one we will never forget! Thanks to Dena for everything you did at Kimmie's to help us out, with the services.(You know what I'm talking about) and to Mr. & Mrs. Clay Miranda for their donation; and to Clay and the boys, for always treating Steve like he was part of the family! He really loved you guys!
I would also like to Thank Cricket and DJ Foster and Family; (Foster & Sons) for sending their Paver and heavy equipment and Trucks to take part in the procession to the Church as a tribute to Steve. That is the way Steve would have wanted to go out and thanks to everyone for making it happen!

Marcie,Kenny,Steve Jr., and kids..my husband Tony Romanazzi and I, Sheila Romanazzi just heard about Steve's passing and are very saddened by the news..Tony worked for Steve from "91-98" as his blade operator. Steve was always up front and honest with Tony and he appreciated that very much. He could be rough but he was extremely tenacious about making sure a job was done right the first time and not have to go back to fix any "mistakes" that could have been avoided. Please except our condolences and may he rest easy in heaven knowing that we all remember who and how he was with family and friends. You can contact Tony at (559)627-3484 or E-Mail at [email protected]

Nikki and Blake...
Im so sorry to hear what happened to your dad. I cant imagine what you both must be going through. I have great memories of all us kids when we would go on vacations or just hanging out with the family. I cherish those memories and your dad will never be forgotten. He was always really sweet and knew how to put a smile on your face, and whenever you felt sad he always knew how to make you laugh. I know its been awhile since we last seen eachother but if you ever need to talk im here for you!! Keep in touch Love Paige...

Marci and Family,

I was saddened when heard of Steve's passing. Steve has been my earthwork contractor for more than 25 years. He was my go to guy, he would always "say get the hell out of my way" so that I can get this job done, and he alway got it done. I am sure he is bossing someone around in heaven now! We all will miss him.

Steve was a guy with rough exterior at times, but he had a soft spot for family, friends and kids.

My deepest Sympathies go out to you and Steve's "Kids".
