SUSAN MCKEON Obituary

Susan Shayne McKeon, age 57, of Clovis, CA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 25, 2017, after a four month long valiant fight against a brain tumor. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was comfortable and pain free as heaven's angels gathered to take her home. Susan was born on July 23, 1959, in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Wesley-Passavant School of Nursing in 1981, starting a lifetime calling to care for the sick and dying. She was a beloved hospice nurse for many years in Sacramento, CA, and Fresno, helping hundreds of families as loved ones transitioned from this world to the next. Most recently, she was the nurse navigator at the St. Agnes Breast Center, where she helped women who were diagnosed with breast cancer. Susan married the love of her life, Mark, on December 18, 1984. Together they travelled the world, living in eight cities, two states, and four countries over the course of their 34 year marriage. In each place she lived, Susan always listened for God's call, and then said "Here I Am, Lord." She has left behind a network of friends around the world who have been surrounding her with love and prayers through the course of her short illness. The family wishes to thank Hinds Hospice, and in particular nurse Nancy Garner, for their loving care over the last weeks. In addition, the family wishes to thank Kidisty Hagdu, who works as a home health aide but is actually an angel in human form; and Wendy Talesfore, who showed us the true meaning of how to be a good neighbor. Susan is survived by her husband, Mark Joseph McKeon; daughter, Katherine Georgiana McKeon; son, Mark Gregory McKeon, and partner, Colton Murphy; son, Nicholas David McKeon; daughter, Megan Inese McKeon; sisters, Janice Rosen and her husband Allen, and Jacqueline Carey and her husband Robert; her many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her countless friends. Visitation will be held at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Vigil Prayer Service where guests will be invited to share brief remembrances of Susan will follow at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. If you would like to make a donation in Susan's name, you are invited to donate to the veteran's house project at the Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch, 14335 Academy Oaks Ln., Clovis, CA 93619, a project that was close to her heart. My mother and I loved Susan. Her wit, kindness and passion for life gave us great joy as we were going through Mom's final year. God must have a special project in Heaven to have taken Susan so swiftly from a loving family. I had a Mass said for Susan on Sunday at St. Genevieve's. God rest her soul and our hearts...

Whenever Susan spoke of her family, you could hear her love and devotion for them in every word. She had a gentle soul and such a big and giving heart that she shared with everyone she knew, especially her patients; what a wonderful legacy! Praying God gives your hearts peace.

We met with Susan at ASH more than 15 years ago (Meghan was still a toddler). I was so impressed by her generous heart, energy and being always ready to give to others!! I am devastated by the news of her untimely passing. She was a wonderful, caring lady, an example to all of us! I send my deepest condolences to her family. May her sweet memory be kept alive in your hearts forever.

Your mom was such a kind and caring person. I enjoyed talking with her after-school when she would pick up Megan. I also enjoyed visiting with her in our neighborhood. Praying for comfort and peace for your family at this time.

Greg, I lost my mom nearly three years ago and I would never want anyone to feel that loss, but it is inevitable. It really never gets better, we just learn to live with the sadness. My wish is that family and friends can help make it even a little easier for you.

So glad that Mark went to that wedding 35 years ago and met you. You have brought so much joy and happiness to our family. You were so good to mom and dad and took such good care of them. You will be missed but now you are pain free and it a better place.

Dear Susan,
You will always be remembered as a soft-spoken, sweet person that never had an unkind word to say of anyone. My sons and I will always cherish the few moments we had shared while visiting you at your home in The Netherlands while repairing your computer or checking out your garage sales.
