Vartuhi Kelarjian Obituary

VARTUHI KELARJIAN (ADISHIAN) "Rose" Rose passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2003. Her loving family was present. No tears for her as she "has gone to a far, far better place." Rose was preceded in death by her husband Andrew. She was born to Kevork and Anna Adishian in Tulare on March 24, 1923. Her sister Anahed "Ann" followed in 1926. In 1930, the family moved to Dinuba and became a typical Armenian-American vineyard family. Rose was an inquisitive, bright child and since her elder cousin was starting school, she was enrolled on the "QT", graduating a Dinuba Emperor in 1940. Tradition was broken shortly after. Instead of assuming her "place", she did the unheard of, skipping off to the University of California, earning two BA degrees. Upon graduation she worked in San Francisco for the War Department during WWII. At war's end she came home to teach. Being an "old maid" in her early 30's she was "introduced" to Fowler farmer, Andrew Kelarjian. They married in 1952, moved to Easton and had their only child Joseph. Rose was very active in Parent's Club, 4-H, church, Fowler Ladies Club, SAE Mother's Club....the list goes on. Rose was a fabulous cook. She was on the cutting edge from homemade cream puffs to store-bought TV dinners, the subject of much kidding. She made real Mexican food long before it reached mainstream. She supported family and friends with time, effort, and love. In turn she was loved by them. She was always and without effort, a popular person. She is survived by her sister, Anahed Adishian; her son, Joseph Kelarjian and his wife Marilyn; and her granddaughter, Piper Rose. Remembrances may be made to St. Paul Armenian Church or the Fresno County Library. YOST & WEBB FUNERAL HOME1002 "T" St. 237-4147
