Winnie Suk Chun Wong
February 28, 1960 - October 29, 2024
Visalia, California - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Winnie Suk Auyueng Chun Wong, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and light of many lives. Winnie left us peacefully after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer on October 29, 2024 at the age of 64 with her family by her side.
Born on February 28, 1960 in Hong Kong, she was the youngest of four children born to On Ming Auyeung and Wan Hoi Kong Auyeung. From the time she was born, Winnie brought nothing but joy and good fortune to her family. The favorite of everybody, she was always a happy go-lucky child and lived a wonderful childhood in Hong Kong.
At age 15, Winnie and her family emigrated to the United States where they lived in Oakland for six months before settling in Visalia California. Winnie attended High School at Mount Whitney and received her AA degree from College of the Sequoias. While working as a cashier at the R-N Market in Orosi, she met the market's owner's son Wayne Chun Wong who would become her husband of 44 years until her passing. As the family expanded the R-N Market to thirteen stores, Winnie continued to be a fixture and important presence in the original Orosi store. Holding multiple positions, from cashier to meat wrapper to accountant to kitchen cook, there was nothing Winnie could not do.
Winnie and Wayne had three beautiful children, Crystal, Waylon, and Dylan, and Winnie continued to be a source of joy and fortune in her family. Heavily involved in her kids' school lives, you would often see her bussing van-fulls of children to and from sports games, birthday parties, and music lessons, all while continuing to be a fixture in the R-N Market stores.
As her kids left the nest for college, Winnie found a life with Wayne that was quiet but still packed with things she loved to do. Whether it be visiting her children in San Francisco and Los Angeles, traveling the world with Wayne, or holding the position of Chinese Secretary for the Central California Chinese Cultural Center, Winnie always kept herself busy while making time to ensure that her family and friends were well taken care of. Most evident of her generosity and love for all things, Winnie had tremendous space in her heart for animals. She raised a princess of a puppy named Mochi who was always by her side and fed no less than 6 stray neighborhood cats, each with their own unique Winnie-given name, her favorites being Mr. Kitty, Big Boy and Bobo.
Winnie fought pancreatic cancer for the last 18 months of her life, and while the disease slowly made her body weak, it never succeeded in extinguishing the light and joy that she held throughout her entire life. Winnie continued to cook her delicious meals for her extended families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, traveled with her family, fed the neighborhood cats, and made regular trips to her favorite getaway spot Las Vegas.
Winnie is survived by her loving husband Wayne Chun Wong; her children Crystal Chun Wong and her husband Chris Placencia, Waylon Chun Wong, and Dylan Chun Wong and his wife Vivian Nguyen; her siblings Sing Auyeung, Joanna Fung and her Husband Young Fung, and Edmund Auyeung; and her nephews and nieces Mark Fung, Jessica Fung, Patrick Auyeung, Becky Auyeung, Kenia Auyeung, and Gabby Anderson. The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice care for ensuring Winnie was comfortable in her final days.
