Yukio Tani Obituary

Sanger, California - Yukio Tani passed away peacefully at home in Sanger on November 4th, 2021. He was born March 10, 1931 in Clovis to Chotaro and Chikaye Tani. Yukio was a hard-working, strong and lovable individual who loved his family, friends, his work and fishing. He was comfortable, happy and fortunate to be able to stay at home under the care of Hinds Hospice during the past two and half years following two heart attacks.
On May 21, 1955, 67 years ago, Yukio married Midori Sunada and together, they raised two sons. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Ben and George, sister, Yoshiko Yamate and nephew, John Kooda. He is survived by his wife, Midori; two sons, Stanley 'Alan' Tani, his wife, Joy; Edward L. Tani, his wife, Lourdes; grandchildren: Richard (Chanella) Tani, Allison Tani, Christina Tani, sister: Keiko (Robert) Kooda; nieces, Marcia (Tim) Hartz, Elizabeth (Greg) Kelish, Joan (Mark) Taketa and LeAnn Yamate; nephew, Robert (Cynthia) Kooda; and two grandnieces.
Yukio grew up In Clovis. His family was interned at Poston, Arizona and Tule Lake, California during WW II. After the war was over, they lived in Fowler for several years. He graduated from Fowler High School in 1949. They worked hard and saved to buy a 40-acre farm at Barstow and Leonard Avenues in Clovis.
Yukio served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in May of 1954. He worked for the State of California, Bureau of Auto Repair when he wasn't farming. After 32 years with the State of California, he retired in 1992 and went back to farming. The family farm was sold to developers in 2005 and the family moved to Sanger, to become almond growers. He worked up until his heart attack in September 2018. Grandson, Richard Tani, came back to Fresno to manage the family farm.
Yukio's family would like to give special thanks to all his caregivers, Hinds Hospice and the United Japanese Christian church family. Memorial service will be held Saturday, 2:00 PM November 13th, at Lisle Funeral Home, 1605 L Street, Fresno, CA 93721
