Longtime Big Lake resident, Barbara Knight entered heaven on June 13, 2024, while staying with her son and daughter in law.
She was born to Raymond and Ada Mitchell in Greenfield, IA on August 5, 1936. She met her husband, Tim, there and they were married shortly thereafter. Tim was in the Air Force, and they lived in many stations including New Mexico where their union brought twin boys into the world in 1959. They then moved to other stations including Fairbanks, Oklahoma, Florida, two tours in Japan and finally in Anchorage.
Barb was a strong and independent lady and loved her Alaska life. She came to Alaska in 1972 and immediately found a job with First National Bank and a house for Tim and the boys. Tim and the boys drove up the Alcan shortly after and Alaska became their permanent home. Her final job before retiring with 20+ years was with Chugach Electric Association, and she was a proud member of IBEW 1547.
After retiring in 1992, she moved to Big Lake with her partner of 30+ years, Con Lackey. They had many adventures together including traveling, snowmachining and spending time with friends and family on the water. She was an avid reader of mysteries, card games and tending to her flowers every summer. She was also an active participant of Strong Women in Big Lake and a member of the Red Hat Beautiful Blossom chapter of the Red Hat Society. She served as Queen for multiple years.
Barb is survived by her son, Kevin (Roxie), Granddaughter Keri Northcutt (Chris) and Great Grandkids, Brighton and Kooper plus extended family in Iowa. She was preceded in death by her partner, Con and son Kent.
The family would like to thank all her friends in the Big Lake area for always being there for her and helping when needed. She appreciated and loved you all. Per her wishes, no services will be held. Her ashes were spread in the Big Lake area on her birthday in August.

Barb was a great friend when I lived in Big Lake. We shared many dinners and laughs. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile. My condolences to her family.
