Jacob Jared Collins, it is with unrivaled sadness that we share the passing of our beloved son, born in Juneau, Alaska, to Layne Audrey Larson (Collins) and Richard Collins.
The family moved from Nome to Palmer in 1991, where Jacob went to preschool, eventually graduating from Palmer High School, class of 2007. After high school, he attended the University of Nevada, Reno, "majoring in fun with friends," as he would say, and earned credits toward a civil engineering degree.
Jacob's childhood was busy with sports, beginning with t-ball and youth bowling, and as an adult, Jacob played hockey and brought exceptional skill to men's softball leagues in both Alaska and Texas.
Jake was a dedicated professional. He attended Tulsa Welding School, graduating top of his class with a 4.0 GPA, then worked as a welder in Alaska before pursuing a career as an electrical lineman. He graduated third of 177 students from Northwest Lineman College with Top Academic Excellence Honors.
Jacob's greatest passions were fishing, softball and hockey. He also enjoyed cooking, playing crib, cards and spending time with friends and family. He was truly beautiful and genuine, and his compassionate, gentle, kind soul will be remembered for decades to come. Once described as, "a beam of light," Jacob had a spirit that touched everyone he met.
Jacob is survived by his mother, Layne Larson; father, Richard Collins and wife Alma; sisters Krystina and Kathryne "KD" Collins. Losing Jacob is an indescribable loss for many. He leaves an honorable legacy of love, goodness and kindness. The world was a better place for having him in it.
