Margaret Vaughan Obituary

Born on February 9, 1935, Margaret "Peggy" Vaughan died peacefully on October 8, 2025 in Athens, Georgia. As the eldest child of A. Heath Whittle and Daisy Southerland Whittle, she grew up in Davidson, North Carolina, spending many summers in Montreat. She attended North Mecklenburg High school and graduated from Queens College in Charlotte in 1957. After college she worked in Richmond, Virginia where she met her future husband, Newton Vaughan. They were married in 1958 and lived briefly in Seattle, until moving to a permanent residence in Huntsville, AL.
In Huntsville, Peggy was a member of the PEO and volunteered tutoring inmates who were seeking their GED. She was active in church activities and also helped coordinate an International student exchange program. Along with her many friends and acquaintances, they hosted bridge, dominoes and other social gatherings, including a quadrennial presidential election party.
She and Newton, travelled throughout not only the US, but the world. She touched the lives of countless individuals. She was and shall always remain very much loved by family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Isaac Newton Vaughan.
She is survived by her two children Curtis Vaughan (spouse Olga) and Betsy Vaughan Billmayer (spouse Stefan), her six grandchildren Ruslan, Glafira, Victoria, Alex, Nicholas, and Hanns, her sister Mary Jo Whittle Wright and husband Perrin Wright and brother Andrew Heath Whittle Jr. and wife, Mary Ellen Whittle.
A service will be held in Montreat, NC at a later date.

I will certainly miss my elder sister Peggy. She was such a fun-loving lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved performing magic tricks and brain teasers. May she rest in peace.
