Betty Allene Thomas, 101, formerly of Bethel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, in the loving, caring home of her son and his family in Columbus, Indiana.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Richmond, Indiana, on March 10, 1924, to Everett J. & Pearl Hazel Knoll White. In her youth, she played the xylophone in Jack's Xylophone Band. She graduated from Whitewater High School with the Class of 1941 and attended Earlham College. She married Leverton L. Thomas on July 1, 1945. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage and two sons before his death on January 31, 1991.
Mrs. Thomas was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Church. She was the bookkeeper for Richmond Electric from 1967-1982. She loved being outdoors, usually working. She enjoyed traveling with Leverton in their motorhome and spending warm winters at their home in Florida. She was the family caretaker, devoting time to her parents, sister-in-law and brother when they needed help. She enjoyed taking pictures and organizing them, and collecting miniatures, thimbles and bells. She also enjoyed working on assembling jigsaw puzzles and creating Diamond Dotz.
Mrs. Thomas will be missed by her sons, Daniel Thomas & wife, Brenda, Richard Thomas & wife, Pam; grandchildren, Scott (Amanda) Thomas, Sean (Kristy) Thomas, Kristin (Chris) Krammer, Steven (Courtney) Thomas, Jason (Nicole) Thomas and Linzey (Mike) Seiber; great-grandchildren, Maisie, Graeme, Millie, Cole, Vivian, Mitchell, Matthew, Dottie, Carson, Jack, Sara, Colton, Charlotte, Kalleigh and Zane; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leverton L. Thomas; brother & sister-in-law, Robert "Bob" & Edna White.
Mrs. Thomas's life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, at the funeral home.
