Clair E. Johnson, 93, of rural Frankfort, passed away February 28, 2026 at IU Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, IN. He was born April 10, 1932 in Tipton County, IN to Oren "Bill" & Edith (Mitzenberg) Johnson. He married Phyllis C. McKinney on May 16, 1950, and she survives.
Clair was a 1950 graduate of Sugar Creek High School, where he was a star basketball player, and was a lifelong farmer in eastern Clinton County. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Frankfort and served two terms on the Clinton Central School Board.
In his retirement, pastimes included growing pumpkins, gardening, and collecting antique tractors. Up until his final months, he enjoyed working outside to take care of their wooded property and tooling around on his Gator. Most of all he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clair is survived by his wife of 75 years, Phyllis "PJ" Johnson of rural Frankfort; sister, Janell Jane (John) Dyson of Crawfordsville; son, Lee E. (Kathy) Johnson of rural Frankfort; daughter, Diana Hastings (Mike) James of Bloomington; 3 grandchildren, Xenia Hastings, Paul (Sujung Kim) Johnson, Addy (Brent) Faulkner; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan Faulkner, Eli Faulkner, and Reina Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St. Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at the funeral home, with interment afterwards in Green Lawn Cemetery.
