Mike Taylor Obituary

GASTONIA - Michael Steven "Mike" Taylor, 49, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2014, at Robin Johnson Hospice House.

Mike was born in Gastonia on Feb. 20, 1965, son of Dr. Kenneth Taylor Jr. of Gastonia and the late Eve-lyn Gillespie Taylor. Mike was a 1983 graduate of Ashbrook High School where he excelled on the golf team. During his Junior career, he became the highest ranked golfer in North and South Carolina. Mike went on to play at Clemson University on a golf scholarship. For 27 years, Mike worked at Gaston Coun-try Club where he served in various capacities and was presently the Director of Golf. His passion for the game led him in becoming a loved mentor and friend to the Forestview High School Golf Team amongst many other accomplished juniors. Mike was a member of First ARP Church.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Kim Taylor; son, Alex Taylor, a rising Sophomore at Furman University; father and step-mother, Dr. Kenneth Taylor, Jr. and Julia T. Taylor of Gastonia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Taylor III and Sheri Taylor of Raleigh, and Dan Taylor and Susie Taylor of Richmond, VA; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends of Mike Taylor are invited to attend his visitation beginning at 1 until 3 p.m. Thurs-day at First ARP Church with his funeral service to follow at 3 p.m.in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Matt Kuiken will officiate. Burial will be private at Gaston Memorial Park.

Kim and Alex would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Charles Meakin, Dr. Steven Yates, and their respective staffs for their compassionate care of Mike during his battle with cancer. Also deep gratitude to the nurses and staff at Robin Johnson Hospice House for their love and support.
