Carol Hammonds Obituary

On April 24, 2007, Carol Archer Hammonds went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was a fighter and hero to her family and friends. She was devoted to and loved her husband and daughter. She shared her laughter and love with her loving family, especially her sisters, mother and mother-in-law. She was proud of her family and loved to play with her great-nephews and niece. She always had a friendly smile and a helpful hand for anyone.

Mrs. Hammonds was born Feb. 21, 1960. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1978 and worked for 25 years for Watts Construction Company as the office manager. She also worked as a bookkeeper for B.D. Welch Construction Company L.L.C., the Gadsden Christian Bookstore and Jimmy Watts Construction Company. She was a member of the East Gadsden Church of the Nazarene. She was welcomed into heaven by her father, Dan Archer Jr.; and sister, Gail Bennett Johnson.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Kenny Hammonds; her daughter, Cassie Hammonds (fiancé, Andrew Colvard); mother, Vernell Archer; sisters, Pat (Bobby) Welch, Debbie (Frazier) Bearden, Donna (Kevin) Thomas; parents-in-law, Harry and Dean Hammonds; brothers-in-law, Jim Johnson and John (Kim) Hammonds; several nieces and nephews; great-nephews and great-niece; special "other" daughters, Brittany Bramblett and Emily Alford.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Collier-Butler Chapel. The Revs. Aaron Coffey, Tom Estus and Michael Woodall will officiate. Burial will be held at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Welch, Frazier Bearden, Kevin Thomas, Jim Johnson, John Hammonds, Andrew Colvard, Robbie McDonald and Jeremy McDonald.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bart Watts, Brett Watts, Brett Bowers and the crew at B.D. Welch Construction Company.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the St. Vincent's Bruno Cancer Center, especially nurses Mel, Monica, Jan, Sylvia and Dr. James E. Cantrell Jr. M.D. and Bro. Matt.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
