Frances Kelley Obituary

Frances Lee Loftin Kelley, 79, Columbus, Ga., passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Martin Army Hospital in Fort Benning, Ga.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 this evening at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.

Born April 1, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., Frances was raised in Missouri and joined the U.S. Army in 1948 where she was initially stationed at Fort Lee, Va., and then served in 7011th A.S.U. WAC DET in Fort Myer, Va. There she met Clarence Kelly Jr. and later married him in Ellicott City, Md., on Nov. 12, 1949.

In 1965, the Kelleys moved to the Columbus area where Frances continued to raise her three children while her husband continued his military service. In support of her family, Frances worked at Millers, Western Auto and Montgomery Ward. Frances spent the remainder of her life as a loving wife and a caring and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Frances is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clarence Kelley Jr., Columbus, Ga.; her daughter, Janeth Hargis, Columbus, Ga.; son, Ronald Kelley, Fortson, Ga.; daughter, Martha (Randall) Campbell, Midway, Texas; six grandchildren, Keith Kelley, Eufaula, Jenny (Raul) Gonzalez, Houston, Texas, Angie Campbell, Houston, Texas, LeeAnn (Todd) Bohannon, Wimberley, Texas, Wesley Hargis, Jonesboro, Ga., and Chelsea Kelley, Columbus, Ga.; sister, Martha (Robert) French, Playa Del Ray, Calif.; brother, Thomas (Doris) Loftin, St. Peters, Mo.; five great-grandchildren; and many more loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Loftin and Elizabeth Laurene Austin Loftin; sister, Peggy Drummond; brothers, Robert "Bob" Loftin and Herbert "Rusty" Loftin; granddaughter, Kristi Diane Campbell; and two nephews, Robert A. Loftin and Mark A. Loftin.
