Melina Steele Obituary
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at Bethel Baptist Church in Steele.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Robert McClung will officiate the service, along with special speakers Joe Ackerson and Nancy Payne. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing.
Melina worked at the Department of Human Resources in St. Clair County before resuming her studies to complete her Master's in Social Work. Most recently, she had worked at the CED Mental Health Center in Etowah County. Melina had a deep love for God and her family and friends.
She had the most caring heart and showed God's love by being a helpful servant to mankind. No one was able to find the good in any situation like her.
She had an infectious smile, a compassionate soul, a giving heart and touched everyone she knew. Melina will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Steele; cousins, Ronda Glenn and Caleb McClung; and grandparents, Walter McClung and Agnes and Gerald Ackerson.
Survivors include her parents, Cary and Jamie Ackerson; children, Courtney and Wesley Ackerson; sister, Chasity (Liffous) Brewster; grandmother, Gonzellas McClung; and a massive host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The following people will serve as pallbearers: Paul Buice, Jacob Thompson, Jacob Harris, Zackary McClung, Eric Talbot, Lisa Gray, and Scott and Rachel Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Liffous Brewster, Robbie (Stephanie) Tallent, David (Jennifer) Miller, Lori (JD) Davis and Joe Ackerson.
The family will receive friends for visitation this evening at Morgan Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.

I had the privilege of knowing Melina a short time. She was a beautiful person, inside and out. She loved her kids, and the call on her life to make a difference in this world was obvious. She was a light to the world... and she was completely brilliant.
My prayers are With her family; I hope they find peace through their pain.

As her field liaison for the internship she was in the process of completing for the University of Alabama, I had the opportunity to meet Melina and was getting to know her. Melina was well on her way to a great future as a master level social worker. It is with great sadness that her life was cut short. Please accept my condonlences to the family.
