Winfred Stevens Obituary

Mr. Winfred D. "Steve" Stevens, of Southside, joined his parents in Heaven on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at the age of 85.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. In the event of inclement weather, committal service will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Pastor Mike Johnson will officiate. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory is directing.
Mr. Stevens' two biggest joys in life were fishing on Weiss Lake and watching his grandkids play ball. He worked at Meadow Gold dairy as an assistant plant supervisor for over 38 years until his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Stevens enjoyed athletics and watching Atlanta Braves baseball, Alabama football and could always be counted on to cheer on his grandchildren at all their sporting events, staying to support them and coach them even in the sleet, rain or sun. He also participated in sports himself, and played semi-pro basketball and softball. In addition to his own sports hobbies, he also coached John Jones football and Coosa Little League. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed.
Preceding him in death are his parents, James Perry and Ludicy Stevens; brothers, J.V. Stevens, Sam Stevens, Ray Stevens; sisters, Nell Swiney and Jewel Stevens.
He leaves behind, loving wife of 62 years, Sally H. Stevens; son, Michael Kent Stevens (wife, Gayle); daughter, Christi Stevens Mayo (husband, Scott); granddaughters, Molly Tucker and Scoti Mayo; grandsons, Beau Tucker, Sgt. Zachary Stevens (wife, Holly), Perry Stevens, Dustin Mayo (wife, Jennifer); five great-grandchildren; brothers, Clyde Stevens and Glen Stevens; sisters, Sue Stevens and Janie Dobbins; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
His good friends and neighbors have been named as honorary pallbearers: Bill Waddell, Dorman Robinson, David Lynn Mackey, Bill Freeman and Bob Montgomery. Also named as honorary pallbearer is his grandson, Sgt. Zachary Stevens, USMC, who is proudly serving his country overseas and will be unable to attend the funeral.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends for visitation tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
