Gaffney – Deacon Charles Allen Montgomery Sr., affectionally known as "K-Line", age 72 of 110 Country View Dr., Gaffney SC went home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2023 at Cherokee Medical Center. He was born on March 5, 1951 in Cherokee County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late A.C. Montgomery and Marguerite Montgomery. He was the widower of Elaine D. Montgomery.
He was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church before becoming a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as a longtime deacon and a member of various choirs and ministries. Deacon Montgomery was known for his beautiful singing voice with songs such as; "Friend of Mine", "I came to Jesus" and "Can You feel Him Moving." Deacon Montgomery deeply loved serving the Lord with his Ebenezer Church Family.
He was a 1969 graduate of Gaffney Senior High School. In 1971, he graduated with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology from Denmark Technical College. He was employed with Straight Line/ Union Butterfield for 18 years. In 1990, along with Mr. Eddie Bridges and Dr. Eula Miller Jr., Deacon Montgomery became co-owner of 1180/WFGN Hope Broadcasting, Inc.. Along with the radio ministry, Deacon Montgomery had a passion for serving the community in various capacities.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Aroy Montgomery, Thomas Montgomery Sr., and L.D. Huskey.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his only child; Charles "Allen" Montgomery, Jr. (Terrica), Two granddaughters; Hannah M. Palmer (Jamarkus) and Leah Montgomery, Four sisters; Minnie Fair of Gaffney SC, Anne Ruffin of Norwalk Ct, Patricia Montgomery Clemons and Sarah Jenell Thompson (Eugene) of Gaffney SC, one sister-in-law, Evelina Montgomery of North Augusta SC, two nieces raised in the home as sisters; Teresa Fair and Margaret Glenn (Larry), A special niece; Tara Montgomery of Gaffney SC who he regarded as a daughter. A host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends that he loved dearly.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 25,2023 at 2:00 pm at Concord Baptist Church. A 30-minute visitation prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
