Era Williams

Clinton, S.C. - Era Burgess Williams, 89, formerly of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Summit Hills in Spartanburg.

Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of James "Jim" Edward Williams and daughter of the late Columbus Augustus (C.A.) Burgess, Sr. and Emra Hammett Burgess. Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Gaffney High School, retired from textiles, and formerly worked at the Whitten Center. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Spartanburg and attended Cherokee Creek Baptist Church in Gaffney where she was very active and faithful. She loved crafts, gardening and cooking.

Surviving are a brother, Alfred Burgess and wife, Gennell of Gaffney; three sisters, Eunice Buzhardt and husband, Thomas, of Newberry, Connie Reynolds of Gaffney and Annette Jolley and husband, Olin, of Gaffney; a sister-in-law, Maxine Burgess of Greer; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Columbus Augustus Burgess, Jr. and Mansel Burgess.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Davidson officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, 501 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney, SC 29341 or the charity of one's choice.

The family will be at the home of Russell and Debbie Rice, 102 North Pointe, Cowpens.
