Gaffney, SC - Freddie Dean "Bud" Lovingood of Gaffney, South Carolina passed away Friday, January 1, 2021, at Cherokee Medical Center in Gaffney. Born December 30, 1941, Bud was the son of the late U. H. and Lula Mae Lovingood. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Maynor Lovingood; his two sons, Jeffrey Dean (Danette) Lovingood and Steven Craig (Susan) Lovingood; his three grandsons, Steven Tyler Lovingood, Matthew Lewis (Blythe) Lovingood, and Mark Daniel (Ashley) Lovingood; and three great-grandchildren, Levi Wade Lovingood, Lane Jordan Lovingood and Macy Cade Lovingood, all of Gaffney. He is also survived by two sisters, Ann Sprouse and Norma McCluney, both of Gaffney, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews dear to his heart. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by grandson Jordan Dean Lovingood and sister Helen Judith Burgess.
First and foremost, Bud loved his Lord and his family. He was a lifelong member and a deacon of Goucher Baptist Church, where he served on several committees, was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member, and was instrumental in forming its "Together We Build" program. Bud was the Founder of the Goucher Community Fun Day. He participated in many mission trips with the Southern Baptist Association, both at home and abroad. Bud also loved his life on his farm along Thicketty Creek where he raised cattle and spent many hours in his woodshop creating beautiful and practical pieces of art for his family members and friends. He was a loyal Gamecock fan, enjoyed going to dirt track races and ballgames, and helped to form the Goucher White Plains Fire Department. Bud retired from Bonitz Contracting after more than 40 years of service and had worked as a bailiff in the Cherokee County Court System for 13 years. He served on the board of Farm Bureau Cherokee County and the Goucher Water System. To know Bud Lovingood was to love him. He was a simple man of great faith who used his time and talents to support his family and friends and to lead others to know the Lord. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his memory to Goucher White Plains Fire and Rescue Department at 579 Goucher School Road, Gaffney, SC 29340, or to Goucher Baptist Church at 415 Goucher Creek Road, Gaffney, SC 29340. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Frederick Memorial Gardens with Dr. Ron Culbertson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside. Social distancing and masks are required.
