Chesnee, SC - John "JY" Yates Hamrick, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum at the age of 101.
Born in Mooresboro, NC, he was the loving husband of Jewel Hammett Hamrick for 75 years and the son of the late James Monroe and Addie Ramsey Hamrick. He was the oldest member of State Line Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in many areas over the years. Mr. Hamrick was retired from Cliffside Mills and was a United States Army WWII Veteran.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are many nieces and nephews. His son, Johnny Hamrick, Jr. predeceased him. JY was the last remaining member of his family having been predeceased by nine siblings.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Stateline Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00PM at the church with Reverend Kris Showen officiating. Interment will be in State Line Baptist Church with military honors. Social distancing and masks are requested.

The family will be at his residence, 538 Keg Town Mill Road, Chesnee.

Sorry to hear of J Y'S passing. I enjoyed knowing him. I will never forget our trips to Washington and the beach. He was a fine man.
