Blacksburg - Jonathan "Pop" Howard Leagon, 90, of 631 Leagon Drive, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at his residence. He was surrounded by his family and many friends.
Born in Blacksburg, he was the husband of Louise Cooley Leagon and the son of the late Cefus Leagon and Lelia Bolton Leagon. Mr. Leagon retired as a Lab Technician. He was the oldest living member of Nazareth Baptist Church. He loved golf and bowling and dirt track racing. After retirement, he worked at Leagon's Racing Heads, the family business.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Leagon is survived by two sons, Roger Leagon and wife, Janet, and Ronald Leagon and Sandra Gibson, all of Blacksburg; one daughter, Shirley Leagon Thompson, and husband, Jim, of Blacksburg; two brothers, Junior Leagon, and Pete Leagon, both of Blacksburg; three sisters, Luella Ricker, Leona Goodson, and Evelean Blackwell, all of Blacksburg; five grandchildren, Jonathan Leagon and wife, Melanie, of Blacksburg, Dustin Dover and wife, Dawn, of Gaffney, Jeremy Leagon of Greenwood, Lindsey Leagon Patterson and husband, Nathan, of Blacksburg, Kaley Thompson Cable and husband, A.J., of Blacksburg, and Jordan Leagon Hamrick and husband, Devin, of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and seven greatgrandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Leagon, and four sisters, Virgie Hambright, Elizabeth Isler, Viola Leagon, and Libby Leagon.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 23, 2017, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church, 1156 Ninety-Island Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church with Rev. J. R. Robbins and Rev. Joseph Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens.
