Gaffney, SC - Joseph Paul Gaino Jr. was born on October 6, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware. He died June 17, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He was the son of Joseph Paul Gaino and Olga Piunti Gaino.
He spent his young years in Wilmington before moving to Cheraw, SC in the 1950's. The young family included 2 sisters and his twin brother. They later moved to Wake Forest, NC where they grew up.
After another family move to Dublin, VA, where Joe finished high school, he enrolled at Virginia Tech as a civil engineering major. His senior year at a drugstore he met Jane Nash during the Christmas holidays. They were married 8 months later on August 8, 1964. They would have celebrated 57 years of marriage in August 2021. The newlyweds moved to Spartanburg, SC for Joe's first job with Milliken. After 2 years they relocated to Gaffney and have remained there for 54 years. Joe started his company, Garment Technology in Gaffney.
Joe was a talented artist, designer, gourmet cook, skier, golfer and tennis player. He loved anything and everything Italian. He loved life.
He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Paul Gaino III and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jane Nash Gaino and his daughter Mary Garrett Gaino. His sisters, Gloria Gaino Willis (Earl) and Joyce Gaino Jones (Terry) of Edenton, NC, and Janet Lee Gaino of Raleigh, NC. His twin brother James Baynard Gaino (Donna) of Easley, SC and William Frederick Gaino (Viviann) of Ware Shoals, SC. His brother-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Nash (Nancy) of Greenwood, SC and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, June 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Family Life Center from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral will be a private mass in the church on Tuesday, June 22.
Memorials can be made to The Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee County, P.O. Box 1582 Spartanburg, SC or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 403 Vernon Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
