Joyce Wood Obituary
Gaffney, SC - Joyce Nalley Wood, 89, of 1018 Robbs School Road, went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2025 at her home.
Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of the late John Baxter Wood Jr. and the daughter of the late Charlie Nalley and Lula Mae Lee Nalley. She enjoyed gardening, had a great love for her family, her friends, her Lord and never met a stranger. She formerly worked as the plant nurse for Stouffer's and Timken and was a retired LPN, having served in hospitals in NC and SC. Mrs. Wood was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Bruce Wood (Joan), Chris Wood (Rachel), Brian Wood (Tammy) and Stanley Wood (Rhonda), all of Gaffney; a daughter, Gina Mathis (Butch), of Gaffney; eleven grandchildren, Jeremiah Wood (Catie), Bailey Finch (Eric), Joseph Wood, Hannah Brodziak (Conley), Spencer Wood (Maddie), Mary Beth Packard, Luke Wood, Abby Elliott (Tyler), Amanda Baer (Justin), Jamie Lyda (Andrew) and Zach Wood (Lyndsay); twenty-two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Kennedy.
The family will receive friends from 2:30PM until 4:00PM on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Grassy Pond Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the church with Reverend Mark Gregory and Reverend Martin Hogg officiating. Private interment for the family will be in Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-1905 or Miracle Hill Ministries, 227 Henderson Street, Gaffney, SC, 29341.
The family will be at the residence.
