Chesnee, SC - Melvin John "Chief" Lancaster, Jr., 92, formerly of 140 Cecil Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Cherokee Medical Center.
Born in Spindale, NC, he was the husband of Louise Lavender Lancaster for 58 years and son of the late Melvin John Lancaster, Sr. and Mable Bradford Lancaster. He retired as the police chief of the Chesnee Police Department, was a U. S. Army 3rd Infantry Korean War Veteran, and was a member of Chesnee First Baptist Church. He loved his family, enjoyed bird watching, farming and always drove a Cadillac.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Kevin Lancaster (Lauren) of Chesnee; a daughter, Lisa Anthony (Steve) of Inman; a brother, Hix Lancaster (Earleen) of Chesnee; two sisters, Wilma Foxx of Gaffney and Joyce Parris of Rutherfordton, NC; six grandchildren, Corey Anthony (Ashley), Anna Anthony, Austine Lancaster, Noah Blackwell, Emma Blackwell and Liam Blackwell; a great-granddaughter, Ivy; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hayward Lancaster, Jesse Lancaster and Dupree Lancaster, and a sister, Willie Mae Collins.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Blakely Funeral
Home.
Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Grogan and Reverend Chris White officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
