Gaffney, SC - Robert William Honeman, "Dr. Bob" of Gaffney, SC passed away on March 16, 2026 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Bob was born on March 22, 1949 to Martha and Donald Honeman in Baltimore, MD. After graduating high school, Bob held a variety of jobs from truck driver to janitor. He volunteered for the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and spent time in the military as a photographer. After completing his time in the service, Bob attended Frostburg State College while working as a veteran's counselor. He became a teacher. Teaching was Bob's professional passion. He knew he wanted to be a teacher from a very young age. In keeping with his ability to rise to the occasion when presented with job opportunities, he taught everything from preschool to high school. He taught English to his school students on the eastern shore of Virginia while coaching tennis. He obtained a Master's degree in English Literature from Salisbury State College, and went on to get his PhD in Linguistics and Rhetoric at IUP. He proudly worked as a professor at West Virginia Community College and finally settled in Gaffney, SC teaching at Limestone College, where he was beloved by his students. He took pride in encouraging his students to become teachers and mentoring them through the process. He loved working at Limestone and supported athletic programs by always wearing their representative tee shirts.
Bob's favorite pastimes were reading and sports. He was an athletic person, a tennis player and an avid golfer. He golfed most days of the week when he was well. He followed all sports, but was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles, "sticking with" the team through losing and winning seasons.
Bob was a champion for any being who was an underdog or had the cards stacked against them. He was the owner of a three-legged cat named Cleo, who would be friends with no one but him. Bob was devoted to family and was affectionately known as "Bud" by family and extended family. He was a supportive and true husband, who believed in and encouraged his wife, Amie, to pursue any goal she aimed for. He will be missed immensely.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are two brothers, Gary Honeman (Mary) of Trappe, VA and Don Honeman (Carrie) of Burlington, VT; numerous nieces and nephews.
