Gaffney, SC - Michael "Mike" Wayne Byars, 72, of 117 Michael James Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Cynthia "Cindy" Cooper Byars and son of the late William "Bill" D. Byars and Myrtle Mae Medley Byars. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, a graduate of Gardner Webb College, was the owner/operator of Mike W. Byars Surveying, an equine dentist and avid horseman. Mike loved hunting and traveling. He was the past president of Friends of Kings Mountain State Park, past president of Upper State Piedmont Society of Surveyors, member of Friends of the Croft State Park, formerly served on the Cherokee County Voter's Registration Board, the Cherokee County Tax Appeal Board and a member of the Cherokee County Airport Commission. Mike was an avid volunteer with S.C. Odessey of the Mind, a Shriner and Mason. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Michael Byars of Gaffney and James Byars (Jessica) of Spartanburg; a brother, Randy Byars (Lois) of Lexington, SC; five grandchildren, Jayden Byars, Alyssa Byars, Alexa Byars, Ariana Byars and Bayley Fowler; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Blakely Funeral
Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Angelia Price officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
