Richard Rhyne Obituary
Gaffney, SC - Charles Richard Rhyne, 83, of 1235 Leadmine Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Cherokee Medical Center.
Born in Belmont, NC, he was the husband of Teldia Dobbins Rhyne and son of the late James A. Rhyne and Pansy Parvell Loftin Rhyne. He attended Gardner Webb College from 1961-1962, was a 1965 graduate from Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA and a graduate of Command & General Staff College, United States Army. He was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, served his country in the Vietnam War, and also retired from the textiles industry. Richard was inducted into the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School (OCS) Hall of Fame in 2021. He loved his family, raised two fine sons, and traveled worldwide.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are two sons, Richard S. Rhyne (Emberly) of Gaffney and Leigh B. Rhyne of Forest City, NC; a sister, Connie Ruth Atkins (Christopher) of Belmont, NC; four grandchildren, Katherine O. Clopton (Brandon), Joshua I. Rhyne (Anna Tolles), Brackston A. Rhyne, and Rhodes R. Rhyne; five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James D. Rhyne, Jack L. Rhyne, Ronald W. Rhyne and Donald L. Rhyne, a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Rhyne, and a granddaughter, Emily Caroline Rhyne.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at New Harvest Church of God. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00PM at the church with Reverend Robert Wells officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at their respective homes.
