James Rhyne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Almon Funeral Home and Chapel - Carrollton on Mar. 29, 2026.
James Lee Rhyne, born August 24, 1937, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and dedication.

Lee was raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he spent his early years before beginning a life marked by commitment and service. He was a man of Christian faith and a devoted member of Carrollton Presbyterian Church.

On June 25, 1960, he married the love of his life, Miriam Kittles Rhyne of Hampton County, South Carolina. Together, they built a life centered on family, celebrating 65 years of marriage.

Lee proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves. He pursued his education at Southern Technical Institute, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. Upon graduation, he began his professional career with Sandia Corporation, relocating to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After seven years, Lee and Miriam felt the pull of home and family, leading them back east.

In 1967, he accepted a position with Honeywell in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1976, Lee and his family settled in Carrollton, Georgia, where he began a long and fulfilling career with Southwire. Over the years, he formed many lasting friendships and was respected by colleagues as a hardworking and dependable man. He retired from Southwire in 2000.

Above all, Lee cherished his role as "Pops" to his three beloved grandsons, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, James "Jimmy" Rhyne; his mother, Leita Rhyne; and his brother, Kenneth Rhyne.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Miriam Rhyne; his sons and daughters-in-law, Philip (Taffy) Rhyne of Carrollton and Gary (Cindy) Rhyne of Carrollton; and his cherished grandsons, Caleb (Kayla), Joshua, and Luke Rhyne.

The family will receive visitors at Almon Funeral Home on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 1 pm until 2 pm, with a funeral service to follow in the chapel.

Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thornwell Home for Children, 302 South Broad Street Clinton, South Carolina 29325 online at https://thornwell.org/give/ or Carrollton Presbyterian Church, 124 Maple St., Carrollton, Georgia 30117 online at https://www.carrolltonpresbyterian.net/give
