Shirley Ann Scruggs Greene, age 79 of Cliffside, NC, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Oakland Living Center in Rutherfordton, NC. She was born August 1, 1946 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Waylond Scruggs and the late Myrlie Hames Scruggs. She was the widow of the late Jeaul Lane Greene. Shirley retired from Timken in Gaffney, SC after 35 years of service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mooresboro, NC. She was an avid collector of bird houses and lighthouses. Shirley loved to cut her grass and garden. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Shirley is survived by her sons; Bruce Greene and Jimmy Greene (Kim), sister Katherine Scruggs, brother Kenneth Scruggs, grandsons; Ryan Greene, Joshua Greene, Aaron Greene and Trevor Greene, five great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her brother Frank Scruggs.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC. The memorial service will follow at 3:00pm in the A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC with Reverend Tim Frashier officiating. A private interment of the urn will take place at a later date at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to Calvary Baptist Church of Mooresboro, NC at 1509 Ferry Rd. Mooresboro, NC 28114 or to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills at P.O.
