Charlotte, NC - Virginia Belle Owens, 91, of the Sharon at Southpark, died peacefully in the early morning hours of January 11, 2026.
Born on June 11, 1934, Virginia was the youngest, and the last surviving, child in the large, blended family of Ben Tillman and Belle Humphries Owens. She is preceded in death by her parents, 16 brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
A native of Gaffney, Virginia moved to Charlotte at a very young age, where she finished school, and thrived for more than 7 decades. She retired as Vice President of John Polites Commercial Realty.
A devoted, and cherished, daughter, sister, and aunt, Virginia approached life with a sense of fun and adventure. An avid patron of the Arts, she inspired a love of culture, style, fashion, music, theatre, and travel in multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
Virginia is survived by 4 generations of nieces and nephews, including, but not limited to Cindy Owens Hale (Cecil), Danny Owens (Debbie), Debbie Owens Elliott, Garland Hughes (Yvonne), Myra Neal Hodge, Tim Gregory (Jackie), Ramona G. Huskey (Lewis), and Lynne G. McGowan (Drew), all of Gaffney, SC; James C. Sanders (Sandy), Terry Neal, and Faye Porter Jones, all of NC.
A private family service will be held to honor Virginia's long life and legacy, at a future date. She will be interred at Asbury United Methodist Church, Gaffney, SC, the final resting place of her parents and many siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the wonderful outreach programs of the Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of The Sharon, the Ladies of Myers Park United Methodist Church, and Arnetia Walker.
