William Blanton Obituary
Gaffney, SC - Reverend William Henry Blanton, 92, of 1650 Beech Street, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Rosie Lee Hughey Blanton and son of the late William Blanton and Alice Spencer Blanton. He retired after 51 years of service as pastor of True Gospel Independent Baptist Church where he remained a member. He loved the Lord, his family, his church family and gardening.
Surviving are two sons, Tony Blanton (Janice) and Gary Blanton, both of Gaffney; a daughter, Cindy Blackwell (Billy) of Gaffney; a brother, Sherwood Blanton (Hazel) of Gaffney; a sister, Nancy Manning of Gaffney; a sister-in-law, Linda Hall of Gaffney; four grandchildren, Jason Blackwell (Leigh), Tina Morris (Tony), Will Blanton (McKenzie) and Lauren Blanton; seven great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Morris, Rylee Morris, Hannah Blackwell, Logan Blackwell, Hampton Blanton, Eliza Blanton and Sara Blanton; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Melvin Blanton, James Blanton, Virgil Blanton, Doug Blanton, J. B. Blanton, Tommy Blanton, Fred Blanton and Joe Blanton, and four sisters, Pearl McMurray, Gracie Moss, Mary Blanton and Catherine Owens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at True Gospel Independent Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Peck, Pastor Gregg Martin and Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Interment will be in the Draytonville Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
The family will be at the home of Billy & Cindy Blackwell, 485 Corinth Road, Gaffney, SC 29340.
