Gaffney - Wilma Jean McDowell, 89, of Gaffney, SC, went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026, at Viva Senior Living in Gaffney, SC.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Carolyn Eubanks (John) of Blacksburg, SC, and
Brenda Armstrong (Alan) of Cleveland, TN; three grandchildren: Nickole Maronge (Jason),
Christopher Jackson, and Christy Armstrong; and three great-grandchildren: Abigail and John
Maronge and Koen Jackson. She is also survived by siblings Ruby White of Michigan, Sherry
Turnbull of Texas, and Milton Talley of Texas, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was the daughter of Clyde and Rosa Talley of Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald McDowell, and her younger brother,
Harvey Talley.
A native of Maud, Texas, she loved the Lord and was heavily involved in Christian church ministry over the years. She also enjoyed taking care of babies and ran a daycare in Texas. Her favorite hobbies included reading, crocheting, and hosting family and friends. She was known as a loving, friendly, and compassionate caretaker.
A celebration of her life is scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026, at True Direction Church of God, 500 Peachoid Rd. in Gaffney, SC. A visitation will take place at 3 p.m., and the service will be at 4 p.m.
A private burial will take place in the M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC, at a later date.
