Gainesville - Edward Alfred Johnson, Sr.81, retired teacher passed away Monday April 19,2021, at the E.T. York Care Center Gainesville, FL. A native of Philadelphia, PA he moved to Gainesville in 1998, from Mt. Laurel, NJ. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, where he served in the men's Group and the Senior Citizens Group. Mr. Johnson was also a member of Chaney University Alumni, Vice President of Federation of Teachers, and treasurer Phila School Employees Credit Union. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Peggy Ann Gary Milton Lamar Johnson, and Barbara Huggins. His memory will live on in the hearts of: Wife; Delores C, Johnson, Penns Grove, NJ, Children; Edward A. Johnson, Jr. (Margaret Anselmo) Alachua, FL Benjamin H. Johnson, (Dome Karaitis) Penns Grove, NJ, Angela Y. Johnson, Sacramento, CA. Siblings; Alexander Benjamin Johnson. Philadelphia, Pa. Anthony Oliver Johnson, (Karen) Mt. Laurel, NJ, Brenda Johnson Sabika (Mohammed), Bernadette Johnson, both of Philadelphia, PA. Grandchildren; Ben Berry, Ashley Johnson, Tyisha Adorno, Shannon Roberson, Constance Johnson, Maya Johnson, Edward Johnson, III and five Great grandchildren numerous other relatives and caring friends. Funeral Services for Mr. Johnson will be at 1:00 PM at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. F.N. Gallmon officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central, under the care of Chestnut Funeral Home 18 N.W.8th Ave Gainesville, FL. 32601. Visitation Thursday April 29,2021 2:00-7:00 PM at Chestnut Memorial Chapel, and on Friday one hour before the service at the church. Family members are asked to meet at the home of Mr. Johnson 11734 N.W.74th Terrace at 12:00 Noon to form the cortege. Social Distancing and wearing facial mask are recommended by CDC and the Alachua County Emergency Order, 202-50. If you do not have a facial mask, one will be provided for you by a member of Chestnut Funeral Home Staff.
