George Noris Obituary

NORIS,
GEORGE SAMUEL, 97
George Samuel Noris, 97, passed away on October 8, 2014. The son of Italian immigrants Pietro and Santina Noris, George was born and raised in Milton, Massachusetts. Like others of his generation, George appreciated the value of hard work. His work life spanned many decades including a childhood job delivering milk from a horse-drawn carriage, running an auto service station and working in a local hardware store. He fondly remembered participating in the Civilian Conservation Corps and also served in the military during WWII and the Korean Conflict. George married Eileen Sutherland in 1947 and together they raised six children. They moved to Indian Harbor Beach, Florida in 1961 where their lives focused on family, work, and community. They were involved in school activities, Little League, and George served on the City Council. George also developed a love of golf which was his hobby for many, many years. They delighted in their grandchildren and were devoted to each other until Eileen's death in 1998.
George owned the Exxon station in Indian Harbor Beach until his retirement in 1983. However, retirement was not fulfilling so he returned to work at South Patrick Hardware until he was 89. In 2006 he moved to Gainesville to live with his daughter and son-in-law (Beth and Dan Talaga) and was known for his love of going out to breakfast. He continued to serve the community as the oldest volunteer of Gainesville Harvest, helping on the morning 'bread run' until just months before his death. In August he moved to Lakeland to live with his son and daughter-in-law (Paul and Lynn Noris) where he passed away surrounded by his loving family.
George was predeceased by his wife Eileen and his son John. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Gainesville Harvest. Services will be held in Boston at a later date.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.
Anne Noris, son-in-law Jeff Slayton, granddaughter Emma Slayton (Seattle, WA), Peter Noris, granddaughter Caitlyn Boyle (Kristien) and great grandson Henry (Charlotte, NC)
Beth Talaga, son-in-law Dan Talaga (Gainesville, FL), Mary Ellen Noris-Adams, son-in-law Pat Adams (Orlando, FL), Paul Noris, daughter-in-law Lynn Noris, granddaughters Kelsey and Delaney (Lakeland, FL).
