He was one of the brave and the proud and the few

Twenty-one guns helped us say goodbye
I stood there in silence tryin' hard not to cry
As the preacher, he quoted, lines written in red
And then he folded his bible and in a broken voice, he said

There's only two people who's every died for me
Laid down their lives just so I could be free
They both went through hell, beared crosses and shells
And both got back up again after they fell

They never picked the fight, but they're there
To pick up the pieces

God only knows who we'd be without soldiers and Jesus

It seems like the news loves to run 'em both down
But whenever we need 'em, they're always around
So don't hand me a party's political views
'Cause they're a left side, a right side, and then there's the truth

There's only two people who's every died for me
Laid down their lives just so I could be free
They both went through hell, beared crosses and shells
And both got back up again after they fell

They never picked the fight, but they're there
To pick up the pieces
God only knows who we'd be without soldiers and Jesus

To me, they're both heroes for the path that they chose
'Cause one fights for my life, one fights for my soul

There's only two people who's every died for me
Laid down their lives just so I could be free
They both went through hell, beared crosses and shells
And both got back up again after they fell

They never picked the fight, but they're there
To pick up the pieces

The Broken Cord

We little knew that morning that God
Was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same;
But as God calls us, one by one,
The Chain will link again.

Henry and I would like to thank everyone for the kind words, expressions of sympathy and most of all your prayers during this time of sorrow. Although our hearts are aching for the loss of Brad, we are comforted by your words and knowing that by his faith he has joined his sister Heather in Heaven. We are so very proud of him. For our beautiful daughter-in-law Denise, we will always love you and be there for you. Thank you for loving our son and giving us Payton. You both brought him happiness in the short time you had together. You will be in our hearts forever.

There's really not much I can say that hasn't already been said. Brad was one of my big brother's friends growing up, so as the "dorky little sister" I didn't get to spend much time with him. But I always remember that he was a really amazing ball player, the son of one of my favorite back-home families, a fellow service member, a father, a son.... he was so much. He still is. I love you, Pam, Henry, Ace, and even though I never got to meet you, Mrs. Brad Drake, or your undoubtedly gorgeous daughter, you guys are in my prayers too. I'm so sorry guys. It'll be so great to spend eternity with him though!!!

God's Garden by Unknown Author
God looked around his garden,
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest;
God's garden must be beautiful-He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain;
He knew you would never get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyelids, and whispered,
"Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone,
For a part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Denise,
I'm sorry for what you and your family are going through. You and Payton have angel, and Brad will always be with you through Payton. Just look at her when you really get to missing brad, because she looks just like him.

November 20, 2010

I thought I was strong but I never really had a clue. All I can feel is this pain, this empty, soulless feeling like I’ll never be whole again. You taught me how to love, and the reasons I’m alive. But I’m not done growing, I still need you here with me. I need you to hold me at night, and warm my feet with yours. I need you to kiss me on the forehead and whisper that you love me. To complain to me about how the laundry is never done, and to help me cook dinner when it starts to burn. You’re a part of me and without you I will never be complete. I don’t know how I’m going to live my life when I already miss you this much. I miss your amazing smile, and the way you could always make me laugh. I miss the way you smell so good, the way you wear your jeans, And the way you could always make the funniest shirts look so cute. I miss picking up your wet towel and your shoes up off the floor, and always having to remind you to take out the trash when it’s full.
But Payton needs you too; she needs you to lay her down at night with a belly rub and a kiss. She needs you to hold her hand when she walks and to teach her how to fish. She needs you here so she can dance on your feet and to draw pictures of you and me. She needs you here to cry at her graduation, and to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. I know she misses you, she says your name all the time. She misses your butterfly kisses and the way you tickle her till she cries. Your girls need you, and we’ll never be the same.
God knows how much I miss you, He counts the tears I cry, but at night I hear him tell me "Hush now, he only sleeps; your husband is still alive." Someday, sometime, I know I’ll see your face, and that smile I love so much. Someday, I know I'll hold your hand in the better land; And we’ll never be apart again. And when my life is over, I know you’ll come to me on that day, And smile at me and hold me tight and carry me away. This is your message from above; I hear it when I pray, that not even Death can't break the bonds of Our Love.

Dear God keep him in your heaven; until I reach that shining shore; Then let me have him; and let us love, like we did before.

To "Brad's" Family. I had the pleasure of serving with him on that 2007 deployment. A better young Marine there was not! When his truck was hit my heart stopped until I found out that he was okay. Now I find my heart breaking learning of his passing. The best thing I can bring myself to think at this time is that I know the gates of Heaven are now guarded by one fine Marine! God bless you all. You are in my family's prayers. See you soon my friend but not yet.

I give you this one thought to keep ,I am with you still,I do not sleep,I am a thousand winds that blow,I am the dimond glints on snow,I am sunlight on ripened grain,I am the gentle autumn rain,when you awake in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush,of quiet birds in circled flight,I am the soft stars that shine at night,Do not stand at my grave and weep,I am not there I do not sleep,Do not think of me as gone,I am with you still in each new dawn. To The Drake family, you are in my thoughts and prayers, I thought so much of Brad,I have alot of good memories of him.

I walked away that morning, without a backward glance, I didn't know that moment was going to be our last. The last time I would hold you or see your lovely face, the last time I would kiss you and feel your strong embrace. So solid and so real, so vibrant and alive, so cruelly taken from me, I never got to say goodbye. I don't know how I face each day without my darling dear. Gone is all the happiness, the love of my life, my dear. The days stretch on before me, so bleak and dark and long, I pray you walk beside me, and help to keep me strong. And when my life is over, come to me on that day, and smile at me and hold me tight and carry me away. All these are signs you send to me, a message from above, that even death can't break the bonds of Our Love... I Love You Baby & We will Be Together Again One Day!

Asleep in Jesus, oh, how sweet
The scene of closing day,
Where holy angels come to greet,
And bear the soul away!
Refrain:
The angels bore our loved one home
In shining garments fair;
And some bright day we hope to come
And join thee over there.
With grace divine and perfect love
Thy pilgrim days were blest,
But sweeter far thy joys above,
And more serene thy rest.
Thy prayers and tears have gone before,
Thy works shall follow on,
And gather gems forevermore,
To glitter in thy crown.
May we who knew and loved thee here
With angels bright ascend,
Thy blessed heav’nly rest to share,
When mortal life shall end.

God bless the Drake family..My prayers are with you

Thank you for serving your nation, Brad. Our soldiers are the true heroes of this country. And as the hymn says, you are even now guarding the streets of Heaven. God bless your family in their grief and bring a measure of comfort and peace.

We are so saddened by your loss. Brad was a great young man. We enjoyed knowing both of your boys during their years at PK Yonge and while playing baseball. May the Lord comfort and keep you during this very difficult time.

To the Drake and Bedford Family:
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Brad. My daughter and he were in the same class and I was his school nurse at PK Yongue. I was very fond of him...he had a great sense of humor and loved to ruffle the teachers feathers. I remember the day he came to my clinic to announce he was joining the military. I told him that he would be a great soldier and new that would be a good "fit" for him. I am sorry that I was unable to thank him for his service to our country.
We have lost a special man. My heart aches for you in this painful time. I pray the Lord will comfort you and you will draw closer to Him. Blessings, Annette Armstrong
