Juan Enrique Martin Sr.

MARTIN SR., JUAN ENRIQUE, 85 Gainesville - Juan E. Martin, Sr., M.D. died at home Tuesday in Gainesville after a long battle with emphysema and heart failure. He was one month shy of 86. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, February 28, 1921 to Angel A. Martin, Sr. and Delores Martin-Taboas. He had eight siblings. He received his bachelor's degree and his M.-D. degree from the University of Arkansas in 1949, followed by internship and early residency in the United States Air Force stationed at Gorgas Hospital, Panama Canal Zone. He met his wife, Dee, in Panama and they were married in Dallas, Texas in 1952, moving very shortly thereafter to Lufkin, Texas. Dr. Martin was the first internal Medicine Specialist in Lufkin and practiced for forty years. Dr. and Mrs. Martin were active participants in the Medical Community and St- Cyprians Episcopal Church in Lufkin. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Heart Association, and the National Rifle Association. Dr. Martin and his wife moved to Gainesville in 1995. He is survived by his sons, Juan E. "Rick" Martin. Jr., M.D. of Las Vegas, Nevada and Tomas D. Martin, M.D. of Gainesville, FL., brother, Angel Martin and four sisters, Edna Gonzales, Zulma Horn, Flor Evans and Sylvia Hsu, four grandchildren and one great grandson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at 1:00PM in the First Assembly of God Church, 2925 NW 39th Ave., Gainesville, with burial to follow in the Memorial Park Central, Gainesville, FL.
