MARY ANN MATHIS, 89
Lake City - Mary Ann Mathis Darby, 89, of Lake City passed away peacefully March 8, 2016, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida. She was born August 2, 1926, in Lake City, Florida. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Herbert F. Darby; three children; Susan Darby Parrish (Ken Dixner) Gainesville, Florida, Michael Mathis Darby (Donna Darby) Lake City, Florida and Patti Darby Minton (Gary Minton) Valdosta, Georgia; seven grandchildren; J. Parrish (Sarah McKune), Amanda Parrish Reed (Cole Reed), Darby Parrish, Caitlin Darby Tillotson (Jacob Tillotson), Jon Darby, Marianne Wright and Marlow Wright; five great grandchildren; Elizabeth Reed, Montgomery Reed, Matilda Parrish, James Parrish, Henry Parrish; one brother, L.H. Mathis, Jr. (Inez Mathis); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Houston Mathis and Eloise Wheeler Mathis, and her sister, Bobbie Mathis Combs.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 14, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Lake City, Florida. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Lake City, Florida with the Reverend Jeff Tate officiating. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall. There will be a private burial for family at Memorial Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at

My deepest sympathy to Ann's family and all the many friends she made. I consider myself to be a friend. She was one of the first at First United Methodist to welcome Jim and I when we came there eleven years ago. I know how much she will be missed. Rest in peace, Ann.
