MATTHEW GUYER Obituary

GUYER, MATTHEW
CHRISTOPHER, 30
Matthew Christopher Guyer, 30, 'Hunny Bun' and 'The Foo' of Gainesville, FL, died March 5, 2015, in Fairfax, VA. Matt was born on July 12, 1984, in Gainesville, FL, to Robert Lawrence Guyer and Laura Kreis Guyer.
Matt was married to Monique Elizabeth Rodriguez of Albuquerque, NM, on December 12, 2014, in St. Petersburg Beach, FL. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration Degrees in Management and In Marketing in December 2012 from the University of Texas at Arlington. Matt received his Associate of Arts from Valencia Community College, in Orlando, FL, in 2008 and graduated with honors from P.K. Yonge Laboratory School in 2002.
Matt served two tours in Iraq in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2003-2007. Corporal Guyer was honorably discharged in 2007 and received numerous awards for his honorable service, including medals for Good Conduct, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Joint-Service Achievement Medal, the Global Service Medal, and the Global Service Expeditionary Medal.
Post Marine Corps, in 2009 Matt worked as an Operations Manager overseas with EOD Technology, Inc. and in 2008, served as a Trainer with DynCorp International in Qatar. He returned to the United States to complete his bachelor's degree and upon graduation, worked for the Veteran's Administration in Las Vegas, NV until September 2014, when Matt accepted a position with the Strategic System Programs of the U.S. Navy as a Contract Specialist and relocated to Fairfax, Virginia.
Matt was truly one-of-a-kind. He was a very vocal Miami Heat and University of Florida fan. He enjoyed spending time with his wife on many adventures, including hiking and camping. He loved reading on various topics, especially world politics and history. Matt was a kind and loving soul, who sought to bring out the best in everyone he knew, and with whom it was easy to move up the ranks of his estimation based on one's merit versus time spent with him. He had a heart of gold. He was very intelligent but was always willing to engage in pure silliness to cheer up a friend. He loved his pet MPB deeply.
Matt is survived by his wife Monique Rodriguez, parents Robert L. Guyer (Katherine) and Laura K. Guyer, grandmother Patricia S. Kreis, brother Benjamin M. Guyer (Rachel), uncles Thad M. Guyer and George R. Guyer, aunt Sue K. Hoffmann (Michael), cousins Melissa, Emily and Breanna Hoffmann and Jared Guyer (Lulu). Many friends will miss his bright smile and quick wit.
Matt's ashes will be scattered where he was married. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to Gainesville's Partnership for Strong Families, www.pfsf.org in Matt's memory. In memory of Matt, live life to the fullest and tell your loved ones you love them all the time like he did.

Matthew was a truly wonderful man capable of war and of peace, brotherly camraderie and marriage. I weep over his death regularly and for his wife. She recently graduated with a masters degree to qualify her to work she now does for US Veterans at the VA.

Thank you for your kind words about Matthew. Your words affirm the value of the life he led. I weep on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, his birthday, day he died, recalling the day immediately after with his widow as she wailed in grief in the next room, and throughout the year. Thank you, Bob Guyer. One never gets over the loss of a child. 05292023

Sad to hear that Matt has passed. Once of the nicest guys from our graduating class at PK. Always had a smile on his face and a nice thing to say. My thoughts are with his family at this time.
