C.J. Roper Obituary
Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Roper was born March 13, 1925, in Forsyth County to the late Carl William Roper and Lela Jones Roper. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Hall County School System as a teacher. Mr. Roper was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Bagwell Roper.
Mr. Roper is survived by his son, Danny Roper; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Lee Cato; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Treadway, Ella Buice, Euniceteen Baker, Gloria Steele and Marie Corn; brothers, Heyward Roper and Roland Roper; sisters-in-law, Barbara A. Roper and Barbara J. Roper; and brothers-in-law, Elwan Buice, Ron Steele and Ray Corn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, 3765 Mount View Road, Gainesville, GA 30504.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roper was a legendary teacher at McEver. I had him and Helen and they were both "hard" teachers that prepared you for the real world or at least junior high. My prayers are with the family.

C.J. Roper was one of the most memorable people I have ever known. I was fortunate enough to have been taught by him in his final year - and he could have easily kept going. He had these "wisdom sayings" about life - he never deluded his students about the real world. There will never be another one like him.

My Mama told me this weekend about Mr. Roper's death. I want you all to know that he was one of the most memorable people in my life. What he taught in life and in basketball went far beyond what anyone could teach in the classroom. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I just found out about Mr. Roper's funeral today. He was a good teacher and philosopher. My thoughts & prayers are with you Patty, Danny & all your family.
